On October 4th & 5th, 2024, the African Wonder Women Organisation CIC (AWWOrgCIC) welcomed a vibrant mix of creatives, healers, bereaved and traumatised, mental health professionals, and allies into a shared space of artistry and emotional truth.
Our theme, “Break The Stigma 2024: A Conclave for Compassionate Change” challenged us to imagine creativity not just as art, but as a lifeline for healing, advocacy and transformation. The sessions explored how textiles, spoken word, dance and other creative expressions can become powerful tools for reclaiming identity, processing grief and speaking the unspeakable.
One keynote in particular touched on childhood trauma, sparking conversations on how early-life experiences shape our emotional landscapes and how creative practice can become a safe channel to explore and release those memories.
Creativity in Action, our Programme Highlights
Creativity Workshops – Hands-on sessions in slow stitching art, dance and spoken word provided gentle, yet powerful avenues for self-expression. Participants stitched personal narratives into fabric, found their voices in poetry and grooves in dance.
Fashion and textile pieces became walking testaments to resilience and heritage.
Creativity Exhibition & Guest Performances – A moving showcase of participant-created artworks, paired with live music, dance and performance poetry.
Unwind, Sip ‘N’ Create – Relaxed creative spaces where attendees could connect, experiment with new art forms, and simply enjoy the joy of making.
Serial Entrepreneur and Philanthropist, Caroline Popoola delivering her Keynote Speech at EEIVCON2024.
What We Achieved Together
Through creativity, we…
Empowered participants with tangible tools to process emotions.
Built Community by weaving new friendships and networks of creative support.
Reduced Stigma by making invisible struggles visible through panel discussions and artistic expression.
Left a Creative Legacy in the form of textile art and written pieces that will continue to speak long after the event.
